Having returned from the ICC World Twenty20, Bangladesh are set to take a slight breather from international cricket after three months of nearly continuous cricket. Their next tour is likely to take place in August when they are supposed to go to India to play a one-off Test.
Following that series, England are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh in October for a month-long tour. In the meantime, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to arrange another series, which could be a tri-nation tournament, before England's arrival. However, the plan is still in its primary stage. After the England series, Bangladesh are scheduled to tour New Zealand in December.
In between all that there are individuals who will be taking part in competitions abroad. Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman will be taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that is scheduled to begin on April 9. Mustafizur will also travel to the UK after the IPL to represent Sussex in limited overs cricket.
For now though, the players' main focus will be the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). Most of them are expected to be on a break for at least a week before they start preparing for the country's premier 50-over competition.
Unfortunately though, a fixed schedule regarding the DPL is yet to be made. However, member-secretary of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) Rakib Haider Pavel, expects that the tournament will begin by mid-April.
The clubs will be able to buy players through the 'Player-by-Choice' method.
In this system, the players are placed in groups and are assigned values based on their grades. The clubs will be able to buy their players on a turn-by-turn basis, the order of which will be decided based on a lottery.
However, the BCB is mulling one change in this system. They have put forth a proposal that will allow clubs to retain two players from their squads of the previous season.
This new addition to the system has not yet been approved by the CCDM and as a result has not officially been added.
